At Flex VRA, we believe in transforming the way audiologists conduct hearing tests. Founded by Steve Smith in 2017, Flex VRA began as a response to a simple but important question posed by a colleague in the audiology field: “Is there a way to completely control what shows up on my VRA screens while testing a child? It would be a much better way to maintain their attention during the test.”
At that time, the answer was no. But Steve, a former audiometric equipment representative, was determined to change that. His experience in the field combined with a passion for creating better solutions led him to design a prototype that not only met this challenge but exceeded expectations. The prototype allowed users to tailor the video content and environment on the VRA screens, ensuring a more engaging and productive hearing test for children.

This innovation was a success—and the positive feedback led to more requests from audiologists. People wanted additional features like remote control functionality, the ability to upload their own videos, and integration with audiometers. Flex VRA’s response was simple: Yes, let’s try it.
Each request was turned into an opportunity to improve and innovate. Whether it was adding games for Conditioned Play Audiometry or creating an always-on mode for distraction during testing, Flex VRA continuously adapted its system to meet the unique needs of audiologists and their patients.
